REVIEW: Kotobukiya Asuka Test Plug Suit Figure.

I finally received my Asuka Langley Shikinami Test Plug Suit figure by Kotobukiya today! And let me tell you folks it was worth the wait! Now before I dive into the review of this figure, for the people out there who have either been living under a rock or are new to anime let me give you a brief back ground summary of the character this figure is based on.

Asuka Langley Shikinami a.k.a. Asuka Langley Soryu is one of the female deuteragonist from the anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion. She is the 14 year old pilot of Evangelion Unit 02, a cybernetic organism mecha that is used in the defense of earth against extraterrestrial beings know as angels. Her fiery red hair reflects her spirited personality well, she is a very strong willed proud person yet has her own insecurity's. She is one of my favorite characters of any anime series I have ever watched, now on to the review!

As I opened the shipping box like a child on Christmas all wide eyed and wonder struck awaiting my present the first thing I notice is the excellent packaging that Kotobukiya has done for this figure. I am one of those people who refuses to open up the packaging and remove the figures and it seems as Kotobukiya knew that when the boxed her up. The front of the box has a large window to view the figure in all her PVC glory as well as a nice sized picture of the figure on front of the box. As I stared at the front of the packaging I remembered there is more than one side to a box. On the back side of the box is the new NERV logo for the rebuild of Evangelion on the rear window. It is nicely laid out so you can still view the back side of the figure with out much obstruction. On the sides of the box there is a silhouette of the figure and on the other side more pictures of the up close details so you don't get any ideas to open it up and have a closer look at it.
I give the packaging a A+ rating!

Now on to the figure its self. As said before I do not open up my figures but from the nice sized windows you can see all the details that Kotobukiya has become famous for. Ah the details!!! This figure feels almost like she walked out of the anime and decided that she was going to become a figure in my collection. Sculpted by artist Tsukuru Shirahige this 1/6 scale (about 6 inches) figure may be his best work to date in this otaku's opinion! Every thing about it just feels and looks right. The eye's are brilliant and alive, her hair is flowing perfectly and the color of her hair just looks perfect. And how can you forget the new test plug suit that she is wearing! The new clear middle section of the suit may cause nose bleeds in the faint of heart! The figure also comes with a display base if one so decides that this piece of art work simply can not stay in a box. The base is a large circle with the new NERV logo on it and from what I can tell looks just as high quality as the figure its self. I give the Figure a A+ rating! The overall rating from this crazed otaku on this figure is...

This is a outstanding display of craftsmanship by the artist and brilliant packaging by Kotobukiya. I highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of the Evangelion series, you will not be disappointed! For more information about this figure or to order your own vist Kotobukiya's website!!!
