BLOG: The cure for the winter time blues! OHAYOCON!!!

So I’m gearing up for Ohayocon in a couple weeks and my level of excitement is coming to a boil! Last year was my first time attending this convention and I had a blast! I spent a few hundred dollars on anime and figures. Got to meet the lovely Tiffany Grant (The voice of Asuka) had my picture taken with her and got her autograph. She is a very sweet woman who embraces her fans and anime fans all together with respect and enthusiasm. Now I’m hoping that I have as much fun as I did last year! Ohayocon has a pretty good guest list lined up for this year and a great theme for the con in steam punk.

The guest list includes:

Christopher Ayres: Some of his more notable roles include, Kei Kurono-Gantz, Frieza-Dragon Ball Z Kai and Keisuke Yamanami-Peacemaker. He was also the director on Nerima Daikon Brothers and Xenosaga: The Animation

Greg Ayres: He has voiced Chrono-Crono Crusade, Kensuke Aida-Evangelion 1.0 & 2.0 and Negi Springfield-Negima! Along with several other anime and a few video games as well.

Christopher Bevins: Roles include Japan-Hetalia: Axis Powers, Mercutio-Romeo x Juliet also voiced Dhalsim in Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV. He also has several director/voice direction credits. Big Windup, One Piece, Samurai 7, and BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad to name a few.

Jamie McGonnigal: His roles include Barry-Pokémon, Jonathan-Bullet Witch (Xbox 360 Game) and Teddington Twingersnaps-Viva Piñata (Xbox 360 Game)

Carli Mosier-Faigen: She is pretty new to the anime voice acting game but she has had a few such as, Daisy-Halo legends (Homecoming), LAN-Halo Legends (Odd One Out), Princess Pharm-UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie and Yukika/Detective Widget-Nerima Daikon Brothers.

Brina Palencia: Has voiced Holo-Spice & Wolf, Honoka Sakurai-Suzuka, Mikoyo Suo-School Rumble, Rei Ayanami-Evangelion 1.0 & 2.0 and Natsuki Shinohara-Summer Wars. Kind of excited to meet her mostly because I’m a huge Evangelion geek.

Monica Rial: She is a long time voice actress with such roles as. Jo-Burst Angel, Bulma-Dragon Ball Z Kai, Kirika Yuumura-Noir and Tsubaki Nakatsukasa-Soul Eater.

Christopher Sabat: Is probably best known for pretty much voicing almost every person in Dragon Ball Z. Vegeta-Dragon Ball Z, Piccolo-Dragon Ball Z and Alex Louis Armstrong-Fullmetal Alchemist & Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. He has also done a few video games including Sledge-Borderlands, All the Dragon Ball video games, Tutorial Instructor-Halo Wars, Rundas -Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and the Stunt Coordinator-Stuntman Ignition.

This should be a very solid convention this year, the guest are pretty damn good for a small Midwestern convention. Also I am very much looking forward to seeing all the goodies in the dealer’s room and artist alley. How could I forget the COSPLAY!!! Ah yes the Cosplay, I love seeing people dressed up in their favorite characters and doing skits. Plus by about three pm Buckeye Boogeyman and I will be getting drunk at the hotel bar which always equals a great time when him and me start drinking. I hope to meet a lot of new friends this year, buy some awesome stuff and see some fantastic Cosplay! See you there!

Ohayocon is a three day event that focuses on the art, culture and community surrounding Japanese animation. It is held every year in January in Columbus, Ohio USA. This year’s event is taking place at the Greater Columbus Convention Center on the Hyatt Regency Columbus side.
