Ten years prior to the events of FATE/STAY NIGHT, the War of the Holy Grail is a contest in which seven magi summon seven Heroic Spirits to compete to obtain the power of the “Holy Grail,” which grants a miracle. After three inconclusive wars for the elusive Holy Grail, the Fourth War commences.

As a fan of Fate/Stay Night I was over joyed at the idea of a new Fate anime series and while Fate/Zero's first season is not exactly a home run it does deliver a solid triple. Baseball references aside let’s get down to the review. For those of you who watched Fate/Stay Night you will recognize a few of the character in Fate/Zero and have a basic understanding of what is going on in the show. The animation is freaking great and looks beautiful the entire thirteen episodes, let’s just say that the fight scenes will melt your eyeballs from awesomeness! The story drags a bit at times and the dialog is rather verbose but it never felt stagnant or boring to me.

The story had really started coming into its own toward the end of the season and the master/servant relationships where beginning to develop nicely which leads to a great setup for the second season.  I really enjoyed the hell out of Fate/Zero but honestly I felt that it could have been a little better but that is mostly because I loved Fate/Stay Night so much and just wanted more than the thirteen episodes they gave us. I’m very much looking forward to seeing the second season (scheduled April 2012) especially since the first ended with a freaking cliff hanger! Alright time for the stars, OtakuStew.net gives Fate/Zero season one…

Four out of Five stars...
Like I said I enjoyed the show very much and if you’re a fan of fantasy and the original Fate/Stay Night you should check Fate/Zero out! I do not think you will be disappointed.
